Stanislav Shalunov is an AI expert and network architect who designed the new congestion control in BitTorrent (uTP/LEDBAT), which is used in iOS and Mac OS X updates and by many other companies, accounting for 15-20% of total yearly Internet traffic. From 2000-2006, Stanislav chaired the transport working group for Internet2, and led the open source initiative, while doing seminal work in evaluating Quality of Service technologies. In 2011, Stanislav co-founded Open Garden, a venture capital funded startup in San Francisco that received over $13M in funding. While there, Stanislav created FireChat, a revolutionary mobile messenger app that functions without an Internet connection by linking nearby phones directly to one another, constructing a network, and passing secure messages. FireChat has been downloaded by over 6 million people during protests, after natural disasters, and in other situations where Internet connectivity was lacking. In 2016, Stanislav founded Clostra, to focus on deep learning. He has successfully applied DL techniques to some of the most traditionally demanding areas of machine intelligence, including secure networking. Stanislav is a graduate of Moscow State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with master’s degrees in mathematics and Computer Science.
